Party Hunt
If you have been to Goa, and missed out on some of the greatest parties, then you have felt the sadness I almost did.

Earlier this year, I went to Goa for few weeks and tried hard to find the exact same Ecstatic dancing event I attended a year ago. But, the internet didn't help much. It was when a girl I met in Goa told me about an app called 'Party Hunt', I could finally find the exact same event by the exact same organisers that I realised I laded a gold mine. And thus begins this story.
Little bit about Ecstatic Dance event

Ecstatic dancing is a musical event that takes place under a Banyan Tree behind a hostel in Arambol, Goa. It is organised twice every week by Shunya.

Rules: Everyone gathers at dance floor, let your body loose and begin dancing organically to DJ's trance music beats. No drinking, smoking, any form of intoxication, and no cameras are allowed on the dance floor.

At the end of the dance (after three hours) there is live instrumental music (guitar/ sitar/ ukulele/ or banjos) for you to calm down and meditate to return to self.
To be honest, what you experience in the next three hours, you don't need any form of intoxication. It is pure bliss.
This is what I would have missed it it wasn't for this app.
What to expect
I have created a re-design for this app after talking to the owners and understanding their near-future goals. You will see the re-designs of home page and party/ event details page based on my personal understanding, assumptions, and hypothesis.
Limitations
This is a personal project, which I wanted to complete in the spare time I had between work hours. This means, lesser time for drawing research based insights, validating hypothesis, and developing design systems.
Party Hunt's goals for the next quarter
I happened to speak to the founders of the app just to get some insights about their current and near future goals with the app.

They are interested in building a big business out of Party Hunt in the long run, but right now their goals are:
-
To help as many people living/ visiting Goa to never miss a party they would have enjoyed, and
-
For like minded people to socialise with each other in events they love.
Analysis of current screens
Keeping company's goals in mind, I began with analysing the current affordabilities of a user coming to the Home Screen of the app.
Home screen
On this screen, users can:

-
View parties that are happening today, tomorrow, day after, and more.
-
View total numbers of parties happening on the day chosen
-
Learn that they can choose which date they want to check the listings for
-
See the map icon and explore what's in it (the map gives a vantage view of all the locations parties taking place on the given day)
-
See the Add button and explore (its for adding a new party if you are the host)
-
Like a part and view the number of people that liked it
-
Filter the type of parties/ events they want to see
-
View details of each party/ event like - Distance, Start time, genre, and Location.
-
Go to different pages like Explore, Brands, and Menu
Party description screen
On this screen, users can:

Like comment share and report
-
See the venue and open venue in maps

Read description about the event.
Creating new scope for users (Ideation)
Upon analysing the affordabilities of users w.r.t. old designs, I added some new scope for them where they do little more than what they can now, in order to improve experience and help the company achieve their short-term goals
Home screen
Right now they can:

-
View parties that are happening today, tomorrow, day after, and more.

-
View details of each party/ event like - Distance, Start time, genre, and Location.
-
Go to different pages like Explore, Brands, and Menu
What if they could also:

-
Choose some filters of the party listing with much ease (no brainer)
-
Know that they have a scroll control over the promoted parties in the hero section
-
View the number of people attending the party
-
Save the party and go to the saved list to view all the parties they have save

Learn that they can expand the poster of the party to get a better look with an icon clearly indicating the same
-
See how many people are attending the party
-
Mark if going to the party

Connect with other people who are going solo
Wireframes based on the new scope
These are wireframes with new designs that allows users to interact with other party-goers in Goa. These changes can also help companies increase user engagement as users open the app more while interacting with other users with similar interest.

Getting into details
Why add 'no. of people attending' feature?

Party Hunters has two main goals:
-
Help party lovers discover all the parties happening in Goa
-
Help people socialise with people with similar interest
How does this help Party Hunt?
Assumption:

Upon learning about the number of people attending the same event you are interested it/ or are contemplating about, this feature can help give the final nudge in deciding to go for it.

Another emotion this might trigger is that of the ‘fear of missing out’, and thereby acting as a nudge there too.
Additionally, this can also help the user connect with people and make plans with them using the comment section. (Using the comment section to connect with fellow Hunters is another feature within a feature - However, I have not designed that experience yet due to shortage of time)
Validating this assumption with competition analysis:

Hostelworld is a hostel room/ dorm booking app which predominantly caters to the hospitality industry.
However, they have recently introduced a feature which let’s see people who are going to the same place as you.
You cannot see or interact with the fellow travellers unless you have booked the hostel.
Once you book, you can chat on the public chat room and even DMs to make plans with other people.
Furthermore, interaction design to emphasise on user delight.

I ideated a small interaction when users click on the icon to suggest that they are going to attend the party/ event.
